A federal prison guard in Philadelphia faces several charges after being accused of sexual abuse and allegedly assisting an inmate with an attempted escape, U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger announced Thursday.
According to the U.S. Attorney, 47-year-old Lamont Lucas of Philadelphia was arrested Thursday morning. He was charged with sexual abuse of a ward, providing contraband in prison and investigating or assisting an attempted escape, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
According to an indictment that was unsealed Thursday, Lucas allegedly engaged in sexual acts with an inmate between February and May of last year. Lucas was a guard at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia at the time.
The indictment accuses him of allegedly giving the inmate sterling silver earrings and assisting in an attempted escape by the inmate.
Lucas could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted.
Overnight look for passing clouds and a few flurries. Bundle up and watch for icy patches on roads and sidewalks. Lows in the upper teens and low 20s.
The cold stays with us for a few more days with highs around freezing.
Looks like another storm system moving in to start the weekend. This one will likely bring a mix of snow, sleet, and rain. Stay tuned.
