CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Robin Kelly was sworn in on Capitol Hill Thursday. Speaker John Boehner oversaw the ceremony on the house floor.

Kelly is taking over the Illinois' 2nd congressional seat that was formerly held by Jesse Jackson Jr.

Jackson stepped down in November and recently pleaded guilty to the misuse of campaign funds. He's scheduled to be sentenced in June.

Kelly says, "... today is about a new beginning for the people of the second congressional district who I am so proud and honored to represent. I look forward to being their advocate and their champion and to working with you to create a brighter future for all of our constituents. Thank you and God bless."
