The Meaning Behind Patriot's Day

Posted: Updated:

The third Monday in April might not mean much to us here in our area, but in Massachusetts and for that matter Maine, which was once part of Massachusetts, it is a very big deal.

It's Patriot's Day.  This day was set aside to commemorate the beginning of the Revolutionary War back on April 19th, 1775.

Many Bostonians have the day off from work.   This morning, local actors reenacted the first skirmishes  - called the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

The Boston Red Sox played at home at Fenway Park.

Of course, it is also 'Marathon Monday.'   Thousands line the streets to watch the world's elite runners participate in The Boston Marathon.
