PD: Red light runner causes fatal crash

PHOENIX -

A driver is dead after a car ran a red light and collided with a truck near 35th Avenue and McDowell Road early Tuesday morning. The intersection will be closed throughout rush hour.

Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes says the driver of a Mercury Sable ran a red light and collided with a GMC truck, which spun and collided with a Mercury Grand Marque.

Holmes says the truck's driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead. The driver's identity hasn't been released.

The driver of the Grand Marque, a 22-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Holmes says she and the child are in good condition.

The Sable's driver wasn't restrained and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Holmes says the suspect was possibly intoxicated.

Police are continuing to investigate and charges are pending.

The intersection will be closed throughout rush hour. Avoid the area if possible.
