Workers find pipe bomb in eastern Arizona forest

Updated:

FOREST LAKES, Ariz. (AP) - A part of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest in eastern Arizona has been reopened following the discovery of a homemade explosives device.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says Forest Service workers found a metal pipe bomb near some trees while conducting a survey Monday along a forest road west of the community of Forest Lakes.

The area was closed for about six hours while Flagstaff Police Department bomb technicians and other authorities removed the device and searched the area.

The area was reopened late Monday after no other devices were found.
