Nonstop express summer service to the Hamptons

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - New Yorkers heading to the Hamptons this summer will be able to get there in record time.

The MTA is offering nonstop service from Penn Station to Westhampton on Friday summer nights. The ride will take only 94 minutes.

That's 37 minutes faster than the current service requiring a transfer at Jamaica.

Express service also will be available in the opposite direction on Sunday evenings.

According to the New York Post, trains will depart from Penn Station at 4:07 p.m. on Fridays and run nonstop to Westhampton. From there, the train will continue eastward, making local stops all the way to Montauk.

On Sunday evening, trains will depart Westhampton at 7:39 p.m. and run express to Jamaica before arriving at Penn Station.

One-way tickets are $27.

Airline passengers have come to expect a tiny escape from the confined space of today's packed planes: the ability to recline their seat a few inches. When one passenger was denied that bit of personal space Sunday, it led to a heated argument and the unscheduled landing of their plane, just halfway to its destination.
