Community vows to fight back after recent crimes

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A local community is coming together to fight crime after a recent uptick in incidents. On Wednesday, a couple was shot trying to fight off of a pair of carjackers.

More than 150 people gathered on Thursday to speak out because they feel like they've become a target for criminals.

"We don't want someone coming into our community trying to take over," said Steven Bible.

Early Wednesday morning, a husband and wife were shot after trying to stop three men from stealing their SUV right out of their Princeton Lakes subdivision driveway.

The suspects took off in another vehicle and are still on the loose.

"I don't feel like we should have to be prisoners in our own home and that's how I feel right now," said Alicia Gales.

Neighbors say there have been several recent burglaries and a home invasion earlier this week in addition to the couple shot in their own driveway.

Atlanta police told homeowners they are stepping up patrols. The APD zone commander said the biggest deterrent to crime is communities watching out for each other.

"We are going to be on the lookout so if any criminals think they're going to Princeton Lakes anymore, they better hang it up," Bible said.

The female victim of the gunshot wound is back out of the hospital. Her husband is at Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
