Will the Boston bombings alter the immigration debate?
By FOX 10 News Staff
Two brothers -- immigrants from Chechnya wind up being suspected of planting bombs at the Boston Marathon.
The fact they are immigrants -- will that alter the debate over immigration reform?
We spoke to Arizona Senator Jeff Flake on Friday about that issue.
Flake is one of eight senators, Democrats and Republicans -- crafting a bill to address illegal immigration.
"I can tell you we do have a problem in terms of knowing who is here, who's here legally, whose Visa are valid," said Flake. "When people are saying we want to know who's here and who's not, that's what we're trying to do.. 40 percent of those here illegally now didn't sneak across the border. They came on a legal tourist visa, student visa and have overstayed."
The bombing suspects appear to have come here legally and the younger brother actually became a U.S. citizen last year, sworn in on the anniversary of 9/11.
