BBVA Compass Bank customers targeted in text scam

PHOENIX -

Compass Bank is warning its customers about a text message scam going around.

Compass Bank says customers have been calling about a text message that directs them to call the bank to release a frozen credit or debit card.

When customers call the number, the scammers try to collect personal information, including the customer's debit or credit card number.

We talked to a valley man who received a text.

"First thing this morning I called up Compass Bank and the customer service agent said right away it's a scam going on, its affected hundreds, possibly thousands of people," said Robert Weinerth.

Compass Bank says their computer system was not comprised, and customers who ignored the text aren't at risk. The message has been sent to both customers and non-customers.

Anyone who did respond to the text should cancel their cards and request a new one.
