MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Since the twin bombings at the Boston Marathon, it's become clear how important surveillance cameras can be -- and FOX 9 News got a behind-the-scenes look at the system keeping fans safe at Target Field.

Watch the video for more information.

Any fan that wants to go to a game has to get through security before entering the ballpark, but cameras inside capture more than hits, runs and errors on the field.

There are 170 cameras scattered around the stadium, and that allows security staff to quickly respond to anything from a fight between feisty fans to medical emergencies.

"We consider them a tool to keep our fans safe in a fan-friendly environment," said Twins spokesman Kevin Smith. "They also can be a deterrent."

The high-definition cameras also allow security officials to zoom in to investigate a suspicious person or package from across the park.
