Thursday marks the end of another great year raising money and awareness for our St. Baldrick's - FOX Chicago Schools Challenge.
FOX 32 News challenged school kids from the city and suburbs to rise up to the challenge of helping their peers fighting cancer. Once again, you did not disappoint!
For six weeks every year, FOX 32 spends each Friday morning spotlighting some of the best stories from some of the best schools in Chicago and suburbs.
Students from 93 area schools got brave and went bald, shaving their heads to show solidarity with kids currently battling cancer, to show them that they are not alone.
We certainly had plenty of fun, and scored a few for the home team. Volunteers gave their time and donations poured in from across the area. The funds came from donors who wanted to give some of their hard-earned dollars to save our most precious resource on this green earth: our children!
The $1.5 million you've helped raise goes toward medical grants for doctors doing critical cancer research at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and seven other area hospitals. That research is work that the insurance companies just won't pay for.
In the words of the greatest of all time, Muhammed Ali: Public service is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. That is another way of saying, "Together, we can make a difference."
You've certainly done that this year. Thank you for your time, your contributions and your determination to help kids fight cancer – and to make sure they know they are not alone.
