The U.S. Coast Guard said a crew planned to pull a boat that was reported missing last week from the water Sunday. The operator of the boat, however, still has not been found.
A spokesperson for the Coast Guard told FOX 29 the crew was waiting for high tide to pull the boat from the water.
The boat, a 45-foot tow boat named "Cape Hatteras," was reported missing Tuesday morning. The boat was headed to Great Egg Harbor, but three hours into its trip, Coast Guard watchstanders received a distress alert.
The Coast Guard says the boat operator did not respond to cell phone or radio calls.
The operator has been identified as 34-year-old David McAuliffe, according to officials.
Members of the Coast Guard, local police departments, sea boat crews and troopers with New Jersey State Police searched more than 400 square miles for much of the day Tuesday and into the night.
On Wednesday, the Coast Guard suspended its search.
In the wake of yesterday’s system, icy spots will be a concern for the region along with the bitter cold. Look for lows in the teens and 20S. Highs close to 30. West winds 5-10 mph with feels like temperatures in the teens. Bundle up and watch for icy patches on roads and sidewalks.
