PHILADELPHIA -

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was stabbed during a robbery Monday night in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened just after 10 p.m. on the 4800 block of Grant Avenue, near Holy Family University.

Police say two men struck the officer in the head, stabbed him twice in the stomach and took his iPhone and cash before running off.

"We only have a description on one male. He believes he's a white male, scruffy beard, about 5' 11" to 6-feet-tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The officer was released from the hospital Tuesday.

Police say the officer is 28-years-old and a two-year veteran of the police force.

Philadelphia police are working with officers at Holy Family University to see if the robbery was caught on security cameras.

FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney filed this report Tuesday morning from Aria Torresdale Hospital, where the officer is recovering from his injuries.
