Decatur woman lucky to be alive after tree falls on home

DECATUR, Ga. -

It was a close call for a DeKalb County woman on Sunday. A tree came crashing down on her home, just feet away from where she was sleeping!

The heavy rain saturated the soil in the backyard of the home, causing a large tree to uproot early, and crews worked to cover several holes in the roof before the next round of rain arrived.

"It was kind of like an earthquake. It felt like it shook the house," said storm victim Joyce Clark.

The large limbs came crashing through the ceiling of the Tiffany Circle home in Decatur. The noise startled Clark from her sleep as it landed just feet away from her bed.

"I jumped out the bed. I heard all the rain coming in the house, and it was this huge tree," Clark said.

The impact left both structural and water damage on the inside of the home, and a large mess to clean up outside. The damage was so significant that Clark won't be able to stay in her longtime home for some time. But she says she's thankful to still have her life.
