Cicada Invasion Preview From Philly Entomologist

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Makes you itch just thinking about it! But the cicadas are expected to be horrible this year.

A brood of 17-year cicadas are about to invade our area and other parts of the East Coast.

Billions of them are expected to be so loud they'll drown out your conversation if you're outside.

They will out-number humans roughly 600-to-one!

This "Brood II," as they are called, are unlike the annoying ones we see every summer.

So, joining "Good Day" on Thursday morning was entomologist Greg Cowper from Philadelphia's Academy of Natural Sciences Museum.

He discussed what cicadas area, talked about their "songs," where they are before they emerge every 17 years, and how long it will last.
