CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

CTA train service was getting back to normal Thursday afternoon, hours after a car on a southbound Red Line train derailed in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The last car of a southbound Red Line train lost contact with the rails as it was approaching the Armitage station late Thursday morning, according to CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.

Riders on that car were moved to other cars, she said. According to Fire Media Affairs, 64 passengers were moved to the platform and another 100 were able to get on a train that pulled up alongside the derailed train.

All the cars on the train were "upright and stable," according to Fire Media. An EMS Plan I response, which sends at least five ambulances, was called as a precautionary measure.

No injuries were reported by Fire Media, but unconfirmed dispatch reports said one person was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

In the wake of the derailment, there was no Red Line service between Belmont and Cermak-Chinatown, and no Brown Line service between Belmont and Clark-Lake. The CTA was operating shuttle buses for affected riders. The Purple Line Express was also unable to operate because of the derailment.

By about 3 p.m. service on the Red, Brown, and Purple lines was returning to normal, Hosinski said.
