(FOX 11/AP) A California Highway Patrol officer was shot in the leg Thursday during a high-speed chase that ended with a murder suspect dead and another injured, authorities said. The incident began in Yucca Valley, where officers responding to reports of shots fired found a body in a parked car in a shopping mall parking lot, according to published reports. Police and CHP officers pursued two suspects in a high-speed freeway chase that ended in San Bernardino, where one of the suspects opened fire, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported. The officer was injured in the gun battle, one suspect was killed and the other was injured, the paper reported. The officer was expected to survive. A stray bullet from the shootout grazed the mirror of a passenger bus that was picking up people nearby, according to the newspaper. No one on the bus was injured. Authorities say the pursuit continued for about 30 minutes before the suspects and officers engaged in a shootout.
