Cat Ordinance Proposed in Radnor

Posted: Updated:

A ordinance regarding stray cats is up for proposal in Radnor.

It was the talk of the town tonight as the ordinance has been in the works and fought for almost two years.

The ordinance states that if you feed a stray cat with any regularity, you are then responsible for it---getting the cat vaccinated and you must put a collar on it.

Some residents were for the proposal.

Theresa Rage stated, "I love cats but I can't imagine enforcing an ordinance like that...maybe it's a way to help people care for stray cats but don't really wanna take it in."

Donald Curley, Radnor Township member of the Board of Commissioners, supports the ordinance and addresses it as a public health issue.

"The driving force is rabies...there has been an increase in rabies in the northeast and in this region in particular and this is what the board came up with," said Curley.

Some residents say that they see stray cats on a trail off of Lancaster Avenue, but some people say the ordinance is not practical.

"How are they gonna enforce it...some people better watch out!!"

The Township held public hearing on the issue in April. It is back on the boards agenda on May 13th.
