Neighbors: Accused bank robber is single mother with financial troubles

Posted: Updated:

A judge denied bond to a woman accused of robbing a Cobb County bank and leading authorities on a chase.

Ancelly Green made her first appearance before a Cobb County magistrate on Monday after being charged with robbing a bank, leading police on a high speed interstate chase and crashing on I-75.

Authorities say the mother of three claimed to have a bomb when she allegedly stole $425 from the Mars Hill branch of SunTrust Bank. She's accused of then fleeing from officers at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour before crashing on I-75.

Former neighbors of Green said they were surprised to hear of the incident.

Ricardo Brown described Green as a nice, friendly woman, devoted to her three children, but who was evicted from a home after a run of bad luck.
"I just knew she had a bit of financial trouble and actually I texted her 'Happy Mother's Day' the day before and now I hear all this and I'm pretty much shocked, just like everyone else is," said Brown.

Authorities in Cobb County say they arrested Green two times before, but in each prior case they dismissed charges.

Brown says the money problems were so bad that she tried to sell him her truck -- the very same one that crashed on the interstate.
"She was just struggling, she's a single mother, three kids, and I know she had a grandmother that lived with her when she was here. Her son got in some kind of trouble and I didn't expect it to go that far," Brown said.

Cobb County police say they examined Green's vehicle and they looked for a bomb on her person. They couldn't find any sort of bomb in either location.

Green is being held at the Cobb County Jail.
