PHOENIX -

A robbery that started at a pawn shop ended with quite the chase. The suspect jumped over walls, off balconies and ran through a crowded apartment complex.

But police were finally able to get their guy.

Scanner: "Witnesses say he jumped the wall to the south."

Police were led on a rigorous foot chase through a Phoenix apartment complex Tuesday.

"Once the cop turned the corner he just jumped two stories down, landed on his feet, ran all the way over here over the wall," says witness Bobby Brown.

Police say the man in his 20s went into this super pawn shop at 43rd Ave and McDowell, smashed the jewelry case with a rock, and took off with the stolen goods.

He then got into a car and drove to an apartment complex where he hid out -- but he didn't make it easy for police to arrest him once they spotted him.

"Oh he was running, he was gone, if I could give him a football he'd be good for ASU," says Brown.

Justin Barnum saw the commotion and tried to help the cops.

"I was this close, I fell a couple of times but he was a pretty quick guy," says witness Justin Barnum.

"He was running in the apartment complex and there was a helicopter and police around so I figured he did something pretty bad so I figured I'd help if I could."

Once police were able to get close, they tased the man and took him into custody.

"He was a lot younger and a lot faster than some of us but we were able to get him," says Phoenix Police Sgt. James Smith.

The suspect is now facing charges of felony theft and resisting arrest. His name has not yet been released.
