DETROIT (AP) -

An image of a dead infant with a rope around her neck was found on a computer thumb drive containing child pornography in southeastern Michigan, the FBI said.

The disclosure was made in a criminal complaint against Sean Gossman, of Adrian, who is charged with possessing child porn. The FBI declined to discuss the photo, but said the investigation is ongoing.

"It is chilling. No one knows where the picture was taken," Cambridge Township Police Chief Larry Wibbeler said.

His department got involved last November when the thumb drive was discovered in a park in Lenawee County. It contained photos of Gossman as well as the image of the dead infant, who had a bag on her head, a rope around her neck and a message indicating that she had been raped, according to the FBI.

Gossman appeared in federal court Thursday, six weeks after child porn was found during a subsequent search of his home in Adrian, which is about 70 miles southwest of Detroit. He asked for a lawyer and was returned to jail until a bail hearing Monday.

There is nothing in the criminal complaint that indicates whether the FBI specifically asked Gossman about the image of the dead child. Agent Susan Lucas said Gossman admitted that he had downloaded child porn.

A message seeking comment was left for Adrian Police Chief Vince Emrick. He told the News there's no reason to believe the child was from the area.
