Arizonans dream of gigantic Powerball jackpot

Posted: Updated:

People are talking about the $600 million Powerball jackpot. It's the second largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

It was Powerball frenzy at John and Kathy's Shop in downtown Phoenix. Hundreds came through for their chance at a dream. A Powerball ticket will cost you $2.

"You got to have a dream. For a couple of dollars, a dream. I know the odds are incredible but someone still has to win," says John Plunkett.

"I have 5 kids that always want money and I would like to get a car and buy a house and live happily ever after," says Roz Rikli.

At this Glendale Quik Trip store, they've sold more than 7,000 tickets.

"Now it's more potluck, everyone is coming in 30, 60, 90, 194, 120," says QT manager Sharee Bennish.

Don says he's made his millions winning lottery money four times, playing scratchers. This time he's trying his luck at Powerball.

"Powerball yeah, because of the amount. I'll buy another sports car."

Your chances of winning the jackpot are one in 175 million -- you have a better chance of being struck by lightning. But that doesn't keep the hopeful from playing.

"My dad's been struck by lightning twice so I figure if he's been struck twice than who knows maybe I'll get lucky with the lottery," says Brittany Ochoa.

And that lucky winner may be taking home even more than $600 million.

"600 might be our final number going into tomorrow night but if sales keep going maybe it will bump again," says Karen Back, Arizona Lottery spokesperson.

The drawing is Saturday night.
