Disabled Marine Speaks Out After Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:

A disabled Marine veteran is on the mend after being victimized by a group of home invasion bandits.

Police say 58-year-old Darnell Brown answered a knock at his door just before midnight at the Woodbridge Mews Apartments on the 9400 block of Ashton Road in Northeast Philadelphia.

Brown thought it was a neighbor, but when he opened the door, five or six hooded men burst into the apartment.

"They said, 'Oh, what's up?  Gimme your money!'  My medication and all that stuff and started beating on me and stuff – pinned me down on the bed," Brown said.

Police say the thieves ransacked the apartment and got away with a flat-screen television, $200 in cash and Brown's medications.

He served his country as a Marine in Vietnam and the Philippines.

Brown has been bed-ridden since suffering a stroke in 2005.

He says he did not get a good look at his attackers.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon has more details in this video report.
