CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Rescue crews aren't the only ones heading to help tornado victims in Oklahoma. Lutheran Church Charities sent ten comfort dogs to Moore on Tuesday, to help console victims.

Four dogs departed from Addison just after noon on Tuesday, starting their 12-hour drive to Oklahoma. They will meet up with four other dogs along the way, as well as two dogs that are already in Joplin, Missouri, where a tornado came through in 2011.

Lutheran Church Charities to bring some comfort to the victims down in Oklahoma for about a week, before switching with another group of dogs. Group representative Tim Hetzen said the pups are more than ready to meet them.

"Our dogs stay out as long as possible to be with families to help them process their loss. A big part of processing loss is talking about it," Hetzen said. "The dogs are great for that, because they're great listeners, they show unconditional love, they don't take notes and they're confidential, so they're great tools for people to pet. When you pet a dog, you relax. When you relax, you're more likely to share."

The dogs also have their own business cards, which will be passed out to the victims the dogs visit. The cards give the victims a way to keep in contact with the dogs even after they come back to Illinois. They also have their own facebook pages.

The dogs have been to major events including the Newtown shooting tragedy and the Boston Marathon bombing.
