FBI: Fla. Man Questioned In Boston Case Became Violent, Shot Dead

ORLANDO, Fla. -

A man being questioned by federal authorities in the Boston Marathon bombing probe was fatally shot in Florida when he initiated a violent confrontation, according to the FBI.

The shooting occurred early Wednesday in an Orlando apartment, near the Universal Studios amusement park.

FBI spokesman Paul Bresson said in a statement that the FBI agent acted on an imminent threat and shot the interview subject, killing him.

The FBI agent was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There are multiple reports that the man who was being questioned was Chechen, a mixed-martial arts fighter and an acquaintance of bombing suspect No. 1 Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

A friend of the man who was fatally shot told Orlando-area media that both of them had been questioned in connection with the Boston case.

The man shot by the FBI apparently spoke by phone to Tsarnaev about a month ago, but the friend said the man who was shot was surprised by the bombings and had no connection to them.
