PHILADELPHIA -

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a man early Sunday in North Philadelphia.

Officials say a witness found a man lying in the street on the 3400 block of Crystal Street in the Kensington section of the city at about 3:40 a.m. Monday and tried unsuccessfully to wake him.

The witness said he went to get his phone to call 9-1-1 but saw a car turn the corner. He tried to stop the car but it ran over the victim, dragging him for a block or two.

The 40-year-old victim was taken to Temple Medical Center in critical condition with head trauma.

Police are seeking a blue vehicle believed to be a taxi with silver trim around the window and a cage in the rear.
