Eyewitness Describes Building Collapse, Pulling 2 From Rubble

Posted: Updated:

FOX29's Claudia Gomez spoke with an eyewitness after the building collapse at 22nd and Market streets Wednesday morning in Center City.

High school student Jordan McLaughlan,18, described the scene saying, "there was a big boom, there was dust everywhere, and the ground started to shake."

After the collapse, he "dropped [his] stuff" and began to try to help pull apart the rubble to search for trapped people.

He said that rescue workers were shouting "hello" to anyone who was underneath the remains of the building, and that he could hear them shouting the same back to them.

The eyewitness said that the people he saw coming out of the scene were "shaken up."

"I'm very surprised that they would do construction next to a building with people in it," he said.

He was on his way to a dentist appointment.
