Orion 2013: Music festival takes over Belle Isle

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit is the place that transformed metal into cars. Now a metal band is transforming a Motor City jewel into an island of music and more.

Metallica will play host to Orion Music + More, a two-day festival June 8-9 on Detroit's Belle Isle. "The history of music in Detroit is huge and very deep," said Metallica frontman James Hetfield.

Appearing on the five stages throughout the weekend: Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Deftones, BASSNECTAR, Dropkick Murphys, Rocket from the Crypt, FLAG and many more.

Fans can purchase tickets in the form of one and two-day passes. Prices start at $90 and go up to $750 for VIP treatment. Click here to purchase tickets.

According to the festival's web site, no parking will be allowed on Belle Isle, nor will there be any drop-off areas on the island. Festival organizers instead recommend using their free shuttle service from Cobo Center. Continuous shuttles will begin running at 11 a.m. Click here for full details.

Fans will treated to plenty of extras as well like film, food, a museum, record store, and a monster show called "Kirk's Crypt that promises "Too Much Horror." A Vert Ramp is featured on the Vans Damage Stage. A custom car and motorcycle is also available for festival goers. Click here for a complete list of extras.
