CSI Works Collapse Scene, Taking Away Crane, Steel Beam

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

As the painstaking search for more potential victims from Wednesday's building collapse at 22nd and Market streets went well into Thursday, families of one of the victims posted pictures of 36-year-old collapse victim Kimberly Finnegan near the scene.

City officials vowed to investigate.

While work crews removed debris from the site where six people lost their lives, and 13 others were miraculously rescued, one of the top prosecutors from the Philadelphia District Attorney Office's arrived on scene along with crime scene investigators.

Ed Cameron just prosecuted abortion Dr. Kermit Gosnell. The prosecutor wouldn't comment.

At the same time, crime scene investigators, Licenses and Inspections and OSHA focused on the crane used in the demolition job turned tragedy.

They focused on a steel beam sources say was used as a battering ram by the crane operator in Wednesday's demolition work. Then, they took the beam away.

As workers knocked down what was left of the Salvation Army Thrift Store, sources say the crane operator was interviewed and a blood sample was taken at the hospital by police accident investigators.

Sources also say he admitted using three prescription drugs including codeine. Records show he had 10 prior arrests for aggravated assault and drug possession.

We're being told again that the investigation continues. The district attorney's office will not comment on whether there might be a grand jury investigation in this case.

But harken back, if you will, to the Pier 34 collapse years ago. In that case, prosecutors used investigatory grand juries in that situation. Possibly they could use it again here.

We'll see if this becomes a criminal investigation, FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser reported.
