The threat of severe weather producing isolated tornadoes, damaging winds and hail has diminished and shifted to below Philadelphia, in South Jersey and sections of Delaware.

The "moderate" risk area for severe weather, as forecast by the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center, is now for sections of southern Virginia and eastern North Carolina.

With that said, as we look at the storm system, we're really tracking a warm front draped just to the south of Philly. Dew points rose, as did temperatures, and as a result we're tracking a lot of energy moving from the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., areas eastward into Delaware and New Jersey.

We reached a very humid and almost tropical 84 degrees by 4 p.m.

Visible satellite from space showed little cloud over the Delmarva peninsula, and the sunlight helped to destabilize the atmosphere.

There were also drastic temperature contracts. It was 58 in Mount Pocono, but 87 in Dover, Del. So, that warm front is right around our area, and in that warm sector, where we see the sunshine, those clouds are bubbling up and we'll see more chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms.

We're tracking some light showers in the Poconos, where the air is pretty stable.

Down south of Pennsylvania, it's unstable. There were tornado warnings around the nation's capital.

Storms earlier this morning with gusty winds and pea-size hail moved off the coast, but they dropped a half-inch of rain on many places around the region. That's on top of the 6 to 7 inches already recorded this month in some places.

Damage reports included power outages, some scattered trees down, park closures and more.

First-round play today U.S. Open at Merion in Ardmore was quickly halted and then resumed just after noon.
