PHOENIX -

Phoenix police have arrested a man who they say broke into a home and molested a 5-year-old girl.

The victim's mom is now speaking out about what happened.

The victim's mom says she wants to make sure this guy pays for what he did. She gave a statement at his first appearance in court.

“I just hope he gets what he deserves because my 5-year-old did not deserve what he did,” she said while in tears. Her name is not being provided to protect the identity of her daughter, the victim of a sex crime.

29-year-old Derrick Lee is accused of breaking into the woman’s home on Memorial Day weekend and molesting her little girl.

“She’s only 5 years old. He had no right entering my property, a place that we thought was a safe place for my children to be,” she said.

Police say Lee climbed in through an open window at night. The 5-year-old's mom found him in the girl's bedroom. Lee ran off, but police say DNA left at the scene eventually led them to Lee. The little girl's bedroom window faced 35th Avenue near Camelback.

“Now my daughter can't even sleep, my son is so afraid. We are so afraid of even walking out of our house.”

Lee told police he had four 30-packs of beer that night along with two bottles of tequila and can't remember what happened.

Before he was caught, other parents who live in the same complex spent the last few weeks on edge. Some even put extra security locks and wooden sticks along their windows to make sure no one could get in.

Lee is in jail being held without bond.

And according to records, Lee had served time in prison before for aggravated assault and domestic violence.
