Man accused of touching sleeping man at ASU Memorial Union

ASU Police have arrested a 52-year-old man who they say sexually abused another male who was sleeping in the student lounge.

Wednesday evening, ASU Police dispatch received a report of a male who had been sexually abused by an unknown male. The suspect allegedly touched the groin area of a man who was sleeping in the lower level of the Memorial Union, in the student lounge.

The victim, a homeless man, woke up and told the suspect to stop, but the suspect ignored him. The victim threatened to hit him, and the suspect left.

The suspect, identified as Robert Preston Merrill, was arrested about 10 a.m. Thursday.
