TEMPE, Ariz. -

The naked body of a woman with severe, deadly wounds was discovered lying in the street of a usually calm Tempe neighborhood Saturday morning.

The woman, believed to be about 20-years-old, had no clothing and no identification, making it difficult for police to figure out who she is.

Now they're asking for the public's help identifying her and finding whoever killed her and left her battered body in the middle of homes.

At about 4:30 a.m., a person driving to work near McClintock and Baseline came across the young woman's body and called the police.

"Kind of sick to my stomach actually."

Debbie Douglas was sickened that a young woman's naked body was found battered and bruised, lying on the street in a neighborhood she's called home for 22 years.

"This is a very horrific crime right now that we're investigating. This is a young female. We don't know much about her other than where she is right now. We don't know what happened to her last night, but anyone who can do this type of crime is somebody who needs to be apprehended very quickly," said Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley.

"I hope that they can figure out it's not anyone living in the neighborhood that has caused this because that would be pretty scary for the rest of us," said Douglas.

Police are hoping the public can help them identify this woman and that someone saw her battered body being dropped off.

"When we get out of here and we see this type of a crime scene.. it touches us very deeply and it's something we're gonna be puting all our effort in to bring justice to this young lady," said Douglas.

Police are going through missing persons reports trying to figure out who this person is. They're also using fingerprinting, facial recognition software and dental records. They're really relying on the public to bring forth any information about who may have dropped her off.

Take a look at the sketch the Tempe Police Department released. The woman is described as either Hispanic or Native American with braces on her teeth.

If you know anyone matching that description, contact the Tempe police.
