Search for missing University of Chicago student continues

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Canine units were employed Tuesday, in the search for missing University of Chicago student Austin Hudson-Lapore, 20. He was last seen after taking his final exams last Wednesday.

Although the rain, fog and mist proved to be obstacles in the search for the bio-chemistry major, Chicago police, K-9 Specialties' Rob Larson, his search dog and Austin's family continued their desperate search to find the young man on Tuesday morning.

Friends and volunteers have been outside every day since the 20-year-old was reported missing, handing out flyers with his picture on them.

The University of Chicago student was last seen leaving his Hyde Park apartment, nearly a week ago on Wednesday. He may have headed to the lakefront to watch storm activity, but no one is certain. The young man did not take his wallet or cellphone with him.

Chicago police interviewed a witness on Monday who may have seen Austin over the weekend, who said the college student seemed disoriented.

The boy's father, mother and sister flew in from New Mexico last Friday to assist in the search.

"I'm exhausted at the end of the day. We walk and walk and walk. We keep going because we have a lot of support from the community, a lot of support from our friends," Gregg Lapore said. "We have a lot of support from the people just out on the internet - on Facebook, on Twitter - who are messaging us all the time saying there praying for us. They're doing prayer circles, sending wishes, ideas about other routes he could have taken. We even had a psychic send some information about where they thought he was."

Lapore walked down 53rd Street with Larson and his search dog to try and follow his son's trail and find any clues that may remain. Austin lived at 53rd and Kimbark Avenue.

The police and his family have received hundreds of emails, but very few concrete leads. Greg's wife and daughter reviewed surveillance video from businesses along 53rd and 55th on Tuesday, hoping to catch a glimpse of Austin.

That search remains active, and the family thanks the community for their support.

If you know anything that may lead to his safe return, please call the Chicago Police Department.
