'Baywatch'-esque Reality Show Could Come To Wildwood

Posted: Updated:
WILDWOOD, N.J. -

The slow-motion beach run coming to the Jersey Shore?

Your favorite summer lifeguards may start giving you "Baywatch" flashbacks.

The real life drama of Wildwood, New Jersey lifeguards could soon become a show on the Travel Channel.

The idea immediately conjures thoughts of Wildwood meets the former hit show Baywatch, which starred David Hasselhoff.

"People always say I look like David Hasselhoff. That'll be good," says Wildwood lifeguard Chris Kelly.

"My good stuff may end up on cutting room floor," said Beach Patrol Chief Steve Stocks.

The show producers have asked Stocks to serve as a talent scout.

"They've asked me to help them with personalities. Things I anticipate will work well on camera."

If Baywatch is any indication, he'll need plenty of lifeguards with beach ready bodies and sex appeal.

"I feel like I have a clean cut jaw line and feel like I have muscles for it," says Kelly. His friend and fellow lifeguard, Katie Collins, sits beside him.

"Ummmm think he's looking pretty good," agrees Collins.

Lifeguards at Wildwood respond to about 1,600 calls a summer.

Commissioner Anthony Leonetti has taken the lead on the project since the Travel Channel called about a month ago.

"Sounds like they want to see the behind the scenes. They want to see the response. There's quite a bit of activity on the beach throughout the day."

"People's lives are in your hands. You have to watch everything at all times because something can happen in a split second, and if you miss it, then you're done," says Collins.

That's why these lifeguards do physical and EMT training two hours daily.

Training that could help them make a splash as stars in a possible Baywatch-Wildwood TV series.
