Suffolk County police say a woman was arrested after she was driving while intoxicated with her granddaughter in the vehicle on Long Island early Saturday morning.

Authorities say 42-year-old Wanda Carter was traveling at high rate of speed and erratically changing lanes travelling eastbound on the Sunrise Highway in Patchogue around 3:23 a.m.

Carter was pulled over and police say she apparently identified herself with her daughter's name and did not provide a driver's license. She had her 7-year-old granddaughter in the car, was intoxicated.

Carter was arrested and taken to the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue. Police say she had 28 suspensions on her license and two warrants.

She faces multiple charges including Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child 15 Years Old or Younger, a felony under Leandra's Law.

Carter's vehicle was impounded and she will be held overnight and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, June 23.
