Young Navy Vet Works Towards MBA After Cancer Diagnosis

Posted: Updated:

"It's never too late to achieve your dreams."

That's the mindset of a young Navy vet who will soon receive his MBA despite his cancer diagnosis.  It's nothing short of a miracle when Bryan Fazio blows out his birthday candles.  He turns 26 today and has battled hodgkins lymphoma for four years.  The cancer went into remission but unfortunately returned.

In February, he was given nine months to live.

Instead of treating it as a death sentence, he worked harder than ever to make sure he obtained his degree at Brandman University.

Fazio says: "To me, I haven't allowed cancer to be a burden. It's been a part of me. Like, my cancer's a part of me, but I've embraced it. It's not a burden. It's actually a blessing in my life."

He added, " There's two different ways that I can go down. Am I going to be the victim and give up? Or am I going to take it head on and keep moving forward?"

Brandman University has created a scholarship in honor of Fazio.

It will be awarded to ill or wounded veterans attending the university next fall.
