James Craig's first day overseeing DPD comes after bloody weekend

DETROIT (WJBK) -

James Craig has only been police chief for a few hours, yet he seems to have the overwhelming support of the people of Detroit, who are looking for change.

The chief made his position clear during an interview with Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff on Friday.

"This police chief has no tolerance for violence. Those days are over," Craig said.

That hits home for people such as John Calhoun. He has had one of the city's most dangerous jobs for 16 years.

"I had a gun put in my face, and I just thank God that the gun jammed when he tried to shoot it," he said.

Calhoun is a cab driver. He has been robbed more than once, and he is looking for change.

"Do a good job and don't let the citizens down in the City of Detroit because we've had a lot of let downs," he said.

Craig, who didn't speak to the media on Monday, began his first week on the heels of a bloody weekend where at least five people were shot.
