Queens man arrested for selling fireworks from his home

A Queens man was arrested for selling fireworks out of his home Wednesday night.

Police say they seized about 50 boxes of assorted fireworks, two boxes of firework making materials, eight canisters of military grade aluminum powder and five pounds of potassium perchlorate from the house in Astoria around 10:50 p.m.

Authorities say members of Queens Vice conducted an undercover buy of $500 worth of fireworks on Tuesday night from 26-year-old George Liakas near Hillside Avenue and Queens Boulevard. According to police, Liakas stated that he had "a lot more fireworks" at his house.

Once the purchase with police done, Liakas left the scene and the police investigation continued.

Police obtained a warrant for Liakas' home and car on Wednesday night. Officers then saw him walking to his home and arrested him.

Authorities seized the fireworks from his home and his auto, which contained assorted fireworks in the trunk. 

The estimated value of all confiscated items is several thousand dollars.

Liakas faces multiple charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon 1- Explosive, Reckless Endangerment Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3- Incendiary Device and Unlawfully Dealing of Fireworks- 4 counts.

    A small jetliner made an emergency landing at LaGuardia Airport Wednesday afternoon shortly after taking off, authorities said.
