Sarah 'Making Small Steps In Positive Direction,' Family Says

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

There has been some encouraging news over the past day from the family of double-lung-transplant patient Sarah Murnaghan.

The 10-year-old's mom says her daughter is on the path to recovery, but it will be a slow one.

"Sarah is making small steps in a positive direction," her mother stated in a Facebook post Wednesday.

She noted that Sarah needed 100 percent oxygen over the weekend, but she's now down to 50 percent.

"Her X-rays show more air in the affected lung," Janet Ruddock Murnaghan wrote. "Her vent support is still very high. Overall we are cautiously optimistic."

Sarah underwent two double lung transplants last month. She developed pneumonia over the weekend.

Last night, her mom said on Facebook that doctors had determined what was causing the pneumonia. They're now treating Sarah with antibiotics.

The young cystic fibrosis patient's story attracted national attention when her parents sued the government to have her placed on the adult transplant list.
