PHOENIX -

Phoenix Police caught up with three armed robbers after they crashed their minivan into the wall of a valley home early Saturday morning. One of the suspects ended up getting shot by an officer.

It started just after midnight at the Circle K near 28th Drive and Larkspur.

"One of the suspects, 21-year-old, was with a male suspect, 14 and a female suspect, 13. They entered that Circle K this morning armed with a knife," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Martos says the robbers got away with beer, cigarettes and donuts and fled in a minivan.

A witness alerted nearby officers, who followed the trio.

"We got a clue up on it. When we came up the street, police cars had the area blocked off," said George Downs, an area resident.

Downs returned home around 7 a.m. to a heavy police presence and crime scene tape surrounding the house next door, where the minivan landed in the backyard wall.

"The car must have been going a pretty good speed and knocked the wall down," said Downs.

Phoenix Police say the crash site is also where the officer and the suspect struggled and the suspect was shot.

"There's an altercation between them. Suspect and officer struggle for officer's gun, officer fires gun, striking suspect in the face," said Martos.

According to police, the 21-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The teens who fled before the shooting were eventually taken into custody as well.

The 14-year-old male was found hiding in a backyard laundry room and was bit by a K-9.

The 13-year-old female was found at the adult male's house.

The 21-year old suspect is in stable condition.

He faces several charges including armed robbery and aggravated assault on a police officer.

The teenagers will also be charged with the robbery.
