First On FOX: Body Parts Found, Suspect In Custody

PHILADELPHIA -

Crime scene investigators rolled into a weed filled lot off York and Sedgely Streets just before 1 p.m. Friday after a grisly discovery was made down a deserted roadway.

In among the weeds were body parts apparently dumped there by a suspect who is now in police custody.

"That's crazy man, a body being around here like that," said Courtney Deans, who works just up the block from the crime scene.

The gruesome discovery of the arms, legs and torso came just over 24 hours after police found a bloody crime scene inside a home on North 32nd Street, less than a mile away. They found bloody sheets, gloves, duct tape and a gallon of bleach.

Police also found pools of blood in the basement of the Strawberry Mansion home.

"They'll work with the medical examiners office and do what they have to do, DNA and whatever, fingerprints, should they be able to do that," Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross told FOX 29.

"I never thought anybody would do something like that, man," another neighbor said.

Asked what she thinks of someone who would do something like that, Regina Archer replied, "A bad person. A real bad person."

Central Detectives took a 44-year-old suspect into custody overnight and confiscated his truck. They believe he allegedly dismembered the body, loaded it into his truck and dumped it. Police believe the victim may have been a prostitute.

"Basically, he lead us to the location. Probably wouldn't have found it for some time, but we were able to locate it," Ross explained.

The suspect has nine prior arrests, including two for sexual assault. He has been on the run since police discovered the grisly scene inside the house. Sources say he is cooperating with investigators.

"That male is in custody. I do anticipate that he will be charged," Ross added.

Deans, who works near the scene of the discovery, said, "That's crazy and so close. There's kids around here."

"Nothing surprises me these days, you know what I mean? It's awful," she added.

As of late Friday afternoon, the suspect was still being questioned by homicide detectives and had not yet been charged.

Police will check to see if this case may be connected to any other similar cases in the region.

So far, Ross said, they believe this was an isolated incident.
