NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has admitted to violating the league's drug policy and has been suspended without pay for the rest of the baseball season, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced.

Braun, who has a career batting average of .312 and 211 in seven seasons, is one of many Major Leaguers linked to the Biogenesis scandal.

Rob Manfred, an executive with MLB, said in a statement that the league commended Braun for "taking responsibility for his past actions."

"As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect. I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions," Braun said in a statement released by Major League Baseball. "This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization. I am very grateful for the support I have received from players, ownership and the fans in Milwaukee and around the country."

MLB's Manfred said the league looks forward to Braun's contributions when he comes back.

"I wish to apologize to anyone I may have disappointed -- all of the baseball fans especially those in Milwaukee, the great Brewers organization, and my teammates," Braun said. "I am glad to have this matter behind me once and for all, and I cannot wait to get back to the game I love."

Security is being beefed up at Yankee Stadium this week. It is all part of Major League Baseball's safety plan. Ticketholders going to Tuesday night's game against the Houston Astros will notice metal detectors in place at some of the gates. They'll be asked to remove cellphones and large metal objects from their pockets before walking through them.
