CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

One person was critically injured in an extra-alarm fire in a West Ridge neighborhood apartment building Wednesday afternoon on the North Side.

The fire started in a 3 1/2-story "large" apartment building in the 2100 block of West Lunt Avenue and was elevated to a two-alarm blaze, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The fire started when a flooring company worker was applying finishing to the floors, the fire department said.

The worker was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition with burns to the legs, according to the fire department.

The blaze started about 5 p.m. and was controlled about an hour later.

A two-alarm fire sends at least eight engines, four trucks and two tower ladders, one ambulance and numerous fire chiefs to the scene.
