DETROIT (WJBK) -

Children were saved, alleged pimps cuffed and money and cars seized during a three day underage prostitution sting in Metro Detroit.

"These were girls that were under the age of 18 that were lured into this lifestyle or lured into prostitution by someone who was promising them either money or drugs or something else to entice them into doing this," said FBI spokesperson Simon Shaykhet.

The FBI working with 230 agencies saved ten children forced into prostitution in Detroit and its suburbs, including Southfield, Roseville, Sterling Heights and Romulus.

"Once they bring them into the fold and they feel like that they have a part of a family, they start to use them for their own financial gain," said Lt. Mike Shaw with Michigan State Police.

The sting was a part of Operation Cross Country 7, a national effort covering 76 cities that saved a total of 105 children.

"We were going to hotels. We were answering ads on the Internet for girls who were advertising prostitution, and as is the case each year, we recover underage girls, and we also arrest pimps," Shaykhet said.

"In Michigan alone, that's ten kids that we took out of this lifestyle, were able to get them some help, and hopefully they'll be better off," Shaw said.

Metro Detroit ranking second behind San Francisco in Operation Cross Country for the number of young lives saved.

Meanwhile, police and the FBI said prostitution is a constant threat, which will not be tolerated.

"Pimps or anyone else that looks to exploit young women, that you will be arrested, you will be prosecuted, and we intend to recover young people that are being exploited," Shaykhet said.

"Any one child that loses their innocence is one child too many," Shaw said.

Officials said Operation Cross Country resulted in 59 total arrests locally, including 18 alleged pimp arrests in Oakland, Wayne and Genesee counties.
