National IPA Day: Drinkers celebrate craft beers

PHOENIX -

A lot of beer lovers celebrated National IPA Day Thursday night.

IPA stands for India Pale Ale.

The craft beers have more hops and a higher alcohol content.

At the Rose and Crown Pub in downtown Phoenix, drinkers found a variety of IPAs in bottles and on tap.

"We sell a lot of the Four Peaks Hop Knot IPA which is a it's a definite favorite in Phoenix because it's locally brewed and we go through it really quickly," said bartender Katey Trowbridge.  "I really like the west coast IPAs more than the east coast because the east coast is more malty.  The west coast -- they have lots of hop farms in the Pacific northwest, so it really makes a difference."

National IPA Day was founded two years ago by social media personalities Ashley Routson and Ryan Ross of Berkeley and San Diego.

Those who plan to drink IPAs are encourages to take photos and post them on social media sites with the hashtag "IPAday."
