For 15 Years, An Alaskan Town Has Had Feline Mayor

Posted: Updated:

He's very succinct, never raises taxes, and is much loved. He's the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, and he's a cat!

Mayor Stubbs was voted into office 15 years ago when the town residents rejected all the human candidates and wrote his name on the ballot. He's had no trouble with re-election since.

Stubbs serves a largely ceremonious role to the town of 900, but he's been a great tourist attraction. His Facebook page has more than 31,000 subscribers, his official politician page has more than 13,000 likes. Also, at least 20 tourists come from all over the world to see the feline mayor every day.

So far, Mayor Stubbs' biggest critics are businesses that don't want him taking a nap on their property because he leaves fur on their carpets.
