NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York man has been arrested on charges he offered to sell a woman's 2-month-old baby online for $100.
Staten Island prosecutors said Monday that Paul Marquez is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
Marquez had been out with the baby's mother a few times but felt she wasn't paying him enough attention, authorities said. He said he wanted to get back at her so he posted the ads with photos of her daughter on Craigslist, authorities said.
Marquez gave the mother's phone number to a person who answered the ad, and the mother notified police after that person called her, prosecutors said. Investigators are looking into the request, saying it may have been out of concern and not an illegal attempt to purchase a child.
