Alleged Dreamworks Vacation Club travel scammers Daryl Turner, and his wife Robyn Bernstein, pleaded guilty today. They will face prison and pay restitution.
According to the acting District Attorney, Daryl Turner and his wife Robyn Bernstein took money from would-be travelers, and then never delivered on the vacations they promised. According to the state, the couple would set up vacation clubs that offered members discounted vacations. Customers would pay thousands of dollars to become a member, but when they tried to book travel, the vacation dates would be unavailable, or the club would be defunct.
The state alleges that the couple laundered more than $2.6 million from their illegitimate travel clubs. The state also says that Daryl never paid the $3 million in restitution he had settled with the Division of Consumer Affairs in 2011.
With the current plea deal, Robyn will face five years probation. Daryl will face seven years prison and pay approximately $2.6 million in restitution.
Husband and wife were charged with conspiracy, money-laundering, theft by deception, and failure to file income taxes before they accepted the plea deal.
After a one-two punch of snowstorms, we're left with bitter cold. Even with plenty of sunshine today, look for highs only around 30-degrees. West winds 5-10 mph with feels like temperatures in the teens. Bundle up and watch for icy patches on roads and sidewalks.
The cold stays with us for a few more days.
Then, we start tracking another potentially messy wnitry storm, set to arrive on Saturday.
