'Love Boat' To Be Scrapped

Posted: Updated:

The MS Pacific, famously known as the Pacific Princess on the long-running hit TV show "The Love Boat," will soon land in the scrap heap.

The ship's last voyage brought it to a ship-breaking yard on Turkey's coast. The owner decided to scrap it because renovating it would be too costly.

The ship was built in 1971 and was used in the hit show that aired from 1977 to 1986. The ship and the show are credited with helping boost interest in cruises. The MS Pacific has been decommissioned for five years, and sat on a dock in Genoa, Italy. It had trouble getting to its final resting place of Aliaga, Turkey and had to be towed by tugboats after encountering a violent storm.

While the boat may be gone, the adventures of Captain Stubing will forever be in Generation X's memory and forever alive on YouTube.
